Research has shown that green tea provides many health benefits.
The research reviewed here was interesting because it investigated if capsules containing green tea catechins and theanine could prevent influenza infection (Matsumoto K, et al. 2011).
The participants were healthcare workers and the study was conducted over a period of 5 months.
The results documented that the incidence of clinically defined influenza infection was significantly lower in the group who took the capsules containing green tea catechins when compared with the participants taking placebo capsules. The incidence of laboratory confirmed influenza infection was also lower in the participants taking the green tea catechins.
Also, the time for which the participants were free from clinically defined influenza infection was significantly different between the two groups.
